Frictional performance of forestry ropes bent over tree stems
Abstract (englisch)
In forest operations, ropes are widely used to anchor forest machines on trees or stumps. In many cases, anchor ropes are wrapped several times around the anchor in order to transmit the pulling force to them. In this connection, the number of wrappings largely depends on the friction between ropes and anchor materials.
In the last few years, synthetic fiber ropes are increasingly being used for anchorage purposes. These ropes differ significantly from steel ropes in terms of flexibility, surface properties, and elasticity. By now, only little is known about the frictional performance of fiber anchor ropes. Also the construction of steels ropes changed during the last few decades. Processes like strand compaction and overmolded core inserts are very likely to influence the frictional performance of steel ropes.
Thus, the primary purpose of this project is to investigate the frictional behavior of different loaded steel and fiber ropes bent over tree anchors. For the tests, a test rig will be designed and commissioned. In the event, the main parameters studied experimentally will include rope diameter and construction, stem diameter of different tree species, and the influence of different temperature of the bast fibers

Praxisrelevanz
